Valor Mortis will now release in October, because September is filled with Dodgers from GTA 6 G Trends

Lyrical Games and One More Level have announced a release date change for their first Napoleonic Soulslike character, Valor Mortis. It will now launch on October 13.

So yes, they are now between the rock of GTA 6 and the anvil of all the games released at the end of September.

“The month of September has become absolutely jam-packed with incredible matches,” the team writes in the announcement of the new release date. “We knew it was a possibility, but when you’re at a partner showcase like we were, dates are locked in weeks in advance.

“We want to give Valor Mortis (and your wallet) some room to breathe.”

Having to lock dates with ample notice undoubtedly affected many developers and studios, with what seemed like the majority of games choosing a release date between September 24 and October 3. And that was just from State of Play, which took place a few days before Summer Game Fest itself. I’m sure many developers came away from last week’s announcement thinking about a change in one direction or another. There are, for example, four major melee action adventure games coming out in the space of a month, but now that marketing campaigns have started for the major publishers, it’s getting expensive to switch, and it’s not like getting closer to GTA 6 will be as attractive to most of them if they don’t have to.

Valor Mortis will have its own niche though, first-person Soulslike, taking the Napoleonic War era and twisting it with the supernatural. You will play William, a fallen soldier who is resurrected to do what his beloved emperor asks – this Emperor Napoleon played by Vincent Cassel. Luckily, since you’re somewhat dead, you have your own supernatural powers and can unleash them on monsters, robots, and people who seek to dismantle Napoleon’s reign in a grand conspiracy.

You can actually try it now, with a live demo on Steam. One More Level notes that they’ve already patched this demo twice to address highly felt issues, and having an additional fortnight of development time will give them a little more leeway to implement the feedback before launch.
