Matthijs Tille scored a stunning opener as Spurs took a 29th-minute lead against Sydney FC in their final pre-season friendly.
The France Under-21 international scored from a direct free-kick just after the half-hour mark to give the young Spurs side the advantage at the Allianz Stadium.
Till’s previous set-piece passes were less than quality in a match dominated by the Premier League side against their A-League opposition.
The former Bayern Munich winger saw an early shot saved by Sydney goalkeeper Gus Hofsloot before Ben Davies saw penalty claims waved wide four minutes later.
Hofsloot again did well to block Conor Gallagher’s effort but Spurs’ momentum was halted by two poor free-kicks from Till and a wayward cross that eluded his team-mates in the area.
Tottenham goalkeeper Martin Dubravka was a relative bystander for the first 24 minutes, but was finally called upon to save a long-range shot from Reece Yule.
The breakthrough came when Takahiro Sekini, who made his first start for Sydney FC, was fouled on the edge of the box and Till fired a stunning shot into the top right corner.
Gallagher twice came close to increasing Tottenham’s lead with his second attempt, which hit the post.
There were a couple of anxious moments at the other end as half-time approached. Mathias McAllister watched a shot from inside his own half deflect wide with Dubravka backing away furiously before McAllister beat the Slovakian to a loose ball, lifting it over the goalkeeper only to see the retreating Spurs defenders clear the ball.
