An English singer and producer seems to have landed “one” of the musical themes for Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI.
As spotted by the iGrandTheftAuto.com account on X (formerly Twitter), a biography of Trace Austin on projectcasting.com declares the following:
“Trace is rapidly expanding his film and television footprint. He recently starred in a film alongside current Oscar nominees Zoë Kravitz and Kyla Pratt, and he has a major series coming to Netflix under UTA starring King Bach, Kris Jenner, Kid Cudi, Steve Aoki, Ryan Garcia and Howie Mandel. He also teamed up with Rockstar Games for Grand Theft Auto VI, where his rendition of “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” will be one of the theme songs main ones.
Similar text was also found on the Austin site. LinkedIn page , “Trace also has a collaboration with Grand Theft Auto 6 for his special rendition of Papa Was A Rolling Stone with The Temptations.”
Originally recorded in 1972 by the Motown group The Undisputed Truth, the song became a big hit when it was re-recorded by The Temptations. It appears that Austin is sampling or using some of the original vocals from this version to create his new rendition for GTA 6.
The song was also a hit for Was Not Was in the 1990s, but many (older) people know that in 1992 George Michael performed at the Concert Of Hope for AIDS Charities in Wembley, London, with a mash-up of Papa Was A Rolling Stone and Adamski’s Killer.
UPDATE: A video of Austin performing the song was found on YouTube, in which he states that his grandfather is Otis Redding of The Temptations.
