Zelensky says Ukraine is working on military ‘drone deal’ with Canada – National G trends

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that his country has begun preparations for a military drone deal with Canada.

In a social media post, he said 20 countries were already working with Ukraine on similar deals.

Global News and The Canadian Press have reached out to Minister of National Defense David McGuinty and Foreign Minister Anita Anand and their departments for comment.

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s office said last August that the defense ministries of Canada and Ukraine had signed a letter of intent “to participate in the production of defense materials in both countries,” but he did not specifically mention drones.

Ukraine has talked about signing export agreements with other countries to supply it with advanced drone technology that it has improved since Russia launched its large-scale invasion four years ago, and to manufacture drones in joint projects.

Canadian officials testified last November that they had made little progress in efforts to find economic opportunities for Canadian companies in Ukraine in sectors such as drone manufacturing, in part because those companies were concerned about the physical safety of their employees and investments.
