Hong Kong police arrest 9 people in a crackdown on dangerous driving G trends

Hong Kong police have arrested nine suspects, including two on the most wanted list, for dangerous driving offenses during a week-long crackdown on speeding and other road safety violations.

A police spokesman said on Sunday that officers in the New Territories North launched an enforcement operation from July 5 to last Saturday to maintain road safety on the region’s highways.

“The New Territories North Traffic Headquarters found in its analysis of highway traffic situations that many traffic accidents arise from reckless lane cutting, lane shifting and other inappropriate driving behavior such as disobeying lane traffic rules,” the spokesman said.

In the week-long operation, officers issued 194 traffic tickets and court summons, and arrested nine people for alleged dangerous driving and drink-driving offences.

Among the detainees were eight men and a woman between the ages of 37 and 62, including a man and a woman wanted for other previous crimes. All those arrested have been released on bail and must report to police in early August.

Police also confiscated six vehicles suspected of being illegally modified.
