Hannah Montana star Mitchel Musso was conspicuously absent from the show’s 20th anniversary special earlier this year – and now he’s revealing why.
“Of course they asked me to be there,” revealed the 34-year-old Musso “The Joe Fox Podcast” on Wednesday, June 24th. “But it wasn’t represented properly (to me).”
Musso appeared in more than 70 episodes of the classic Disney Channel comedy series, starring alongside Miley Stewart’s (Cyrus) best friend Oliver Oken Emily OsmentThis is Lilly Truscott.
The star explained to the host Joe Fox that he really appreciated the opportunity to play Oliver again, having lived largely out of the spotlight for the past decade. Instead, Disney decided to do a throwback Hannah Montana.

The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special aired in March and featured Cyrus, 33, looking back on memorable moments from the show alongside the host Alex Cooper and prominent guests like Chappell Roan And Selena Gomez.
In his new interview, Musso said he would relish the chance to actually play Oliver again Hannah Montana Consequence.
“I need a wig,” he joked. “I would want the hair, which is fine. I wore (wigs) a lot at Disney. I wore a lot of wigs.
The actor continued, “Yes, I would want to play the character. As soon as I saw myself doing it, I was like, ‘Oh, there you are!’ Let’s go out and do it.”
Musso wasn’t the only major Hannah Montana Cast members are missing from the anniversary special because 34-year-old Osment was unable to appear on the CBS sitcom due to her filming commitments Georgie and Mandy’s first marriage.
“We are in Georgie and Mandy … and that’s why I couldn’t attend the 20-year reunion because we’re filming our show here,” she said in a social media video at the time. “But I wanted to say hello and thank everyone who has stood by us all these years. I’m so grateful that you all still love the show. I’m so proud to be a part of it.”
Before the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special Musso paid tribute to the show, which aired in March, with his own Instagram post.
“Hannah Montana wrapped around my heart and never really let go. “We literally grew up with you guys – long days, crazy schedules, learning to wait in line, running around between takes and figuring out life while the cameras were rolling,” he says wrote. “It taught me so many wonderful values, but the most important thing for me is that laughter can get you through the hard days. That confidence still stays with me every day.”
He also shouted out his co-stars, writing: “Miley, Emily, Jason (Earles), Billy Ray (Cyrus), Moises (Arias) and the whole crew at Disney – you have become my family through all the real, messy and beautiful moments. Thank you for believing in a goofy boy from Texas who wore questionable outfits with a haircut like that. Thank you all for welcoming me into your homes and hearts 20 years ago and for allowing me to be here today. I feel honored that we get to share all of this together.”
