Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen injureds resists the idea that there is bad blood between him and his teammate AJ Brown after missing the wide receiver’s wedding earlier this month.
The topic came up on Wednesday, May 27, when Hurts, 27, met with the media After Eagles practice. A reporter asked the NFL star about the trade rumors surrounding the 28-year-old Brown just as Hurts took a sip of water, leading to an awkward pause.
“Choosed the right question to sip, didn’t you?” Hurts joked.
When the reporter asked, Hurts explained his relationship with the former Pro Bowler, who is likely to be traded in the coming weeks.
“Nothing has changed since we last spoke at the end of the season,” he said. “We’re doing really well and I saw how beautiful the pictures turned out at his wedding. I’m really happy for him, his wife and his family and it’s a beautiful thing to be joining the bond.”
Hurts added: “I was very excited and congratulations on that.”
Hurts and Brown have been friends since high school and the quarterback is even the godfather to Brown’s daughter, making his absence at Brown’s wedding noticeable, especially given the rumors of a trade.
“I think sometimes when it’s a working relationship and friends outside of a working relationship don’t deliver on the field, perhaps because of his (or others’) fault, the relationship could be affected,” the former Eagles star said LeSean McCoy suggested during an appearance on the “Speakeasy” podcast on May 18. “And I think that’s the problem we have here. … Now there’s a little bit of friction.”
Former NFL Athletic Insider Dianna Russini also reported last October that there was a rift between the two.
“A former teammate once described them as an ‘old married couple,’ but I’m told they’re not that close these days,” she wrote. “Like any friendship, life happens. Family responsibilities, the rigors of being a professional, changing priorities.”
Their report came around the same time reports surfaced that Hurts’ teammates were frustrated with him on the field. The former Super Bowl MVP brushed off the chatter, saying he wasn’t “surprised by anything.”
“That’s the nature of things,” Hurts told reporters at the time. “But I put my energy and focus on going out there and doing my best, learning, building and taking in the things I can to improve.”
