Trans actress Dylan Mulvaney has spoken publicly about the president Donald Trump compares her to a CNN reporter Visited by Collins.

To quote my favorite artist: Shea Diamond“I am America,” Mulvaney, 29, said, referencing the 2020 track by fellow trans woman Diamond, 48, on Sunday, July 26. Trump, 80, compared Collins, 43, to Mulvaney during a speech at the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Friday, July 24. Afterward, Collins received an award for her coverage of his highly publicized Oval Office meeting with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskythe president took aim at Collins: “I thought Kaitlan had really hit it big with a big new sponsorship, but then I informed him that it wasn’t her on the Bud Light can, it was Dylan Mulvaney,” he told the crowd.
Mulvaney’s TikTok response began by congratulating Collins, noting that she was “incredibly honored to be compared to her in any way and I hope she continues to do all the great work.” Mulvaney then addressed why she believed the president included her in his speech.

“The President also brought up a video I made over three years ago, and mind you, I’ve kind of flown under the radar… I’ve been doing my little musicals, singing, dancing. And yet, after all these years, I’m still his hot topic of conversation. I feel like maybe I’m the one who got away,” she told fans, adding that she’s left a deep impression on critics of her transgender identity.
“I’m permanently burned into her retina, I’m microchipped into her mind,” she joked.

Jeff Spicer/Getty Images for NetflixMulvaney then explained that she wasn’t upset about being a “dissident” subject for the president. “A few weeks ago I probably would have been even more upset about it, but luckily last month I was ghosted by a partner I really liked and from that experience I realized that I shouldn’t be with someone who doesn’t really want to be with me,” she explained. “So maybe I shouldn’t want to be professionally supported by a government that doesn’t personally support me or so many others in this country.”
Mulvaney then turned her statement into a positive in the president’s speech. “In fact, being publicly ridiculed and criticized by this government is perhaps the greatest compliment of all, because it puts me in the company of some of the most brilliant and compassionate people in our world today,” she said. “I still ask myself: Why does it matter so much to them that I don’t succeed? What do I have that they don’t have? Oh my God, (it’s) freedom.”

Share an inspirational quote attributed to the former first lady Eleanor Rooseveltthe same quote that Collins shared via Instagram in a recap of the annual fundraiser celebrating the First Amendment, Mulvaney appeared to nod to the reporter.
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent,” the quote reads.
