Miloš Bikovic was announced with the first wave of casting in January 2024. HBO dropped him a month later after the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry criticized the channel for casting Biković despite his support of Russia in the country’s war against Ukraine.

days later, Julian Kostov was announced as a replacement for Biković. Biković subsequently criticized the decision in a statement.

“Today a targeted campaign was unleashed against me, seemingly as an external maneuver to influence decisions that may set a troubling precedent that casts a shadow over the very essence of artistic freedom,” he said at the time. “The result of such a narrative is the triumph of absurdity and the defeat of art.”

However, one month after the start of production Charlotte Le Bon was brought in to replace Corney. deadline reported at the time that the decision was made based on the creator Mike White and his team had wanted someone older to play the role.

Corney addressed the news in March 2024, writing via Instagram that while it was “heartbreaking” to step down, she was “so incredibly grateful for the short time I got to spend with everyone.”

“I love this cast and crew so much,” she added. “Season 3 is going to be good. I’ll be watching and supporting the whole time.”

Would Frank’s sex-focused monologue hit just as hard if not Sam Rockwell? Luckily we don’t have to find out, but Rockwell’s wife, Leslie Bibbhad previously hinted that using him for Frank wasn’t always the plan.

“They came to him at the last minute to do the show because we had waited too long and the cast had shifted,” Bibb shared Watch what happens live with Andy Cohenand added that Rockwell filmed in South Africa before joining The White Lotus. “He wasn’t sure if he should do it just because he didn’t have the time to prepare. So we went on a safari in South Africa and I thought, ‘I’m going to take you out. I’m going to take you out.'”

Unnamed role in season 4

Helena Bonham Carter’s early exit from The White Lotus made headlines a week after Season 4 began filming. In April 2026, it was announced that Bonham Carter’s character would be axed and Laura Dern would join the hit HBO series in a new role created specifically for her.

“HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened not to be able to work with (Helena Bonham Carter), but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon,” HBO said in a statement. “It was obvious that the character Mike White had created for Helena Bonham Carter didn’t fit in.”
