Sheriff country is returning for season 2 – but is everyone in the cast coming back?
The town of Edgewater was originally founded as Tierra del Fuego Premiere 2022 with prisoner Bode (Max Thieriot) returns home and volunteers with the California Conservation Camp Program during the first season of the hit series. In Season 2, a backdoor pilot prepared the world Sheriff countrywhich is about Sharon’s (Diane Farr) estranged sister Mickey (Morena Baccarin) while she solves crimes in the city.
Following its network success, CBS quickly renewed “Sheriff Country” in December 2025. According to a press release Sheriff country has an average of 7.6 million viewers and is “consistently a time winner” on Friday evenings at 8 p.m.
The first season ended in May 2026 with a shocking episode in which the deputy director of the DEA – Eva (Rachel Ticotin) – as Mickey’s mother, who was presumed dead.
“In the first season pilot, we’re told that Mickey’s mother is dead, and it’s pretty clear that she is dead. She’s not part of the picture. One of the writers told me (that she was secretly alive) relatively early in the first season, and I brushed it off,” showrunner Matt Lopez said exclusively Us weekly. “As the season went on, more and more writers started getting involved. I was pretty late to the game because I don’t want to just flip a card for the sake of flipping a card. If it gives us a really good story and tells us something about the characters we care about and it’s based on real human emotions, then I’m interested.”
Lopez is excited to unpack that in Season 2.
“It resets our family dynamic, which is at the heart of this show,” he teased. “And it goes into all the interesting character wrinkles that it gave us to play with. We’ll see in the first few episodes that Wes thinks that he and Mickey are on the same page, that they were both betrayed by this woman. Mickey doesn’t agree so much, and in some ways you can argue that Wes’ betrayal was worse. We’ll clear all that up.”
He continued, “She’s been out of the picture since Mickey was about 5 or 6 years old, and who owes Mickey more gratitude? Wes believed she was dead, and we’re going to tell the full story that led to this decision to practically stage her death. It’s really fun and has a lot of delicious twists.”
Looking ahead to the future of the series, Lopez said that the return “will shatter expectations,” adding, “There’s a time jump, but then we’ll recreate what happened in the scene we didn’t see. The emotional aftershocks will last much longer than one episode and we’ve built this incredible dynamic where Mickey basically barely speaks to her father and her caregiver is now the woman Mickey thought was dead for 30 years. It has a great engine from the start.”

Lauria returns as Boone in Season 2 as fans continue to love him and Mickey as a couple.
W. Earl Brown
Season 2 continues to explore Mickey’s difficult relationship with her father Wes (Brown).
Amanda Arcuri
After playing Mickey’s daughter Skye in the first season, Arcuri will play a larger role in the second season.
Ian Quinlan
Quinlan will also be promoted from recurring to main cast for season two.
Rachel Ticotin
Ticotin’s character Eva presumably returns after revealing that she is actually Mickey’s mother.
