Nuno will stay at West Ham after relegation to the Premier League G Trends

Nuno Espirito Santo will remain as West Ham manager following their relegation from the Premier League.

The Hammers’ 14-year stay in the Championship came to an end last Sunday, as their 3-0 win over Leeds United on the final day was not enough as Tottenham beat Everton 1-0.

West Ham met with Nuno the following day for crisis talks that looked set to lead to his departure, with Scott Parker and Slaven Bilic among those linked to the role.

But in A Statement issued by the Board of Directors on WednesdayThe club confirmed that Nuno will remain in his position.

It read in part: “Although relegation was not what any of us wanted, we must now look forward. The Board must now review every aspect of the club’s operation to ensure that when we return to the Premier League – hopefully in August 2027 – we will be better for West Ham United in every way, on and off the pitch.”

“The footballing process must always be our first priority, and planning for next season began as soon as the final whistle blew on Sunday. We held meetings with coach Nuno Espirito Santo early this week, and we are pleased to confirm that he has expressed his continued commitment to the club – as we do to him.”

“Nuno has made it abundantly clear that he is very excited about the challenge of getting West Ham United back to the top flight at the first time of asking. That has to be the undisputed goal for next season. Nuno previously spent a year in the EFL Championship and had an impressive success as he collected 99 points to win the title with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018.

“Although Sunday’s final result was painful, the board believes there are broader signs of improvement and progress in recent months, and we want Nuno to continue to develop this progress.

“The total of 25 points taken from our last 17 Premier League games equates to 1.47 points per game – a ratio that would have resulted in a seventh-place finish throughout the entire season. Furthermore, we feel the clear improvement in team mentality and togetherness since January, which has led to such an improvement in performance and results, makes him the right man to lead us forward.”
