A little space travel, what do you think? The last time I checked in on Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions, the spin-off of sorts to the old classic Astroneer, it had just shown off some gameplay for the first time. Apparently, somewhere along the way, I blinked and now here we are on the day of its Early Access release!
But what about this launch? “What you will discover on the first day is the starting form of the game”, explain System Era Softworks. “What the launch on June 11, 2026 represents is the start of the conversation that we’ve wanted to have with you for a long, long time. The game will grow. It will adapt.” In practice, this means that you and some of your friends can go explore an alien planet (the first of many to come), complete missions, fend off creatures, obtain resources, and return to your space station before you run out of oxygen.
The early access version is already ready to go with things like cross-platform and progression, there’s a whole bunch of missions to dive into, a few bits of story to discover, so it doesn’t look like you’ll be bored in five minutes (unless, you know, that’s not your kind of game, and if that’s the case, that’s on you, buddy). As for how long the developers estimate Starseeker will be in Early Access, they’re currently talking about a year, noting that they “want to work sustainably while still allowing enough time to respond to player feedback.”
There is also a roadmap with various updates you can expect, without any dates attached to them. The first update will focus on ocean gameplay and include a new region, the second is more about endgame threats, the third will add shipping modifiers like weather, mining pressure, and endgame station rewards, and updates four and five will build on that with quality of life improvements and new events.
