Spaniard Pep Guardiola, coach of Manchester City, is scheduled to leave the team at the end of the current season, according to widespread reports, in news that Gary Neville described as “a game-changer.”
Guardiola’s future at the Etihad Stadium has been the subject of huge speculation throughout the season, with many predicting this season to be his last.
This indeed appears to be the case, with the initial report I prepared Daily Mail Revealing his imminent departure, which was followed by multiple outlets.
News of Guardiola’s imminent exit from the English Premier League, which he has won six times in his career, emerged while Arsenal beat Burnley 1-0 to move five points clear of City at the top.
Speaking about his role as Sky Sports’ co-commentator, Neville said: “I’m very surprised that the bracelet has broken at the moment, not necessarily because it happened during this game, but because it’s the night before the Manchester City game. Something like that is game-changing news.”
“I remember being at school and hearing Dalglish leaving Liverpool, or Sir Alex Ferguson leaving Manchester United, or more recently Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool. These are great moments in football and this would be something similar.
“I don’t see what the news of Manchester City being out or wanting to get out will be like. If that’s true, they’ll be very disappointed that it’s broken now, and so will Pep Guardiola.”
City will face Bournemouth on Tuesday in a match that will see Arsenal crowned champions if Guardiola’s men fail to win.
If City win, the title race will move to the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday, when Arsenal visit Crystal Palace and City host Aston Villa in what now appears to be Guardiola’s farewell match.
If City wins its last two matches and Arsenal falters against Palace, Guardiola may emerge with a seventh league title and a twentieth cup with the club. City added the FA Cup to its League Cup victory over Arsenal last March by beating Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
