Canada and Italy have entered into talks for Canada to purchase the M-346 advanced jet trainer.
The announcement came after a meeting between Prime Minister Mark Carney and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains.

The aircraft was designed and produced by Leonardo, one of the largest Italian aerospace companies.
It is unclear how many planes Canada is looking to buy.
Leaders say the agreement will enable the Royal Canadian Air Force to train on the latest equipment and build sovereign training capacity.
Earlier this year, the International Test Pilot School of Canada ordered six Italian-made M-346 fighter jets for a new NATO training center in North Bay.
