The aircraft was designed and produced by Leonardo, one of the largest Italian aerospace companies.

It is unclear how many planes Canada is looking to buy.

Leaders say the agreement will enable the Royal Canadian Air Force to train on the latest equipment and build sovereign training capacity.

Earlier this year, the International Test Pilot School of Canada ordered six Italian-made M-346 fighter jets for a new NATO training center in North Bay.
