Ollie McBurnie enjoyed Hull City’s efforts to silence doubters after stunning Millwall 2-0 to earn a place in League Two. championship Final match.
Millwall finished the regular season 10 points behind Hull and missed out on automatic promotion by just one point.
But after a 0-0 draw in the first leg at Humberside, it was the Tigers who booked their place at Wembley against Southampton or Middlesbrough through two second-half goals in south London.
Mohamed Belloumi broke the tie in the 64th minute when he found the far corner with a perfect shot into the far corner.
Plume then turned provider 15 minutes later when his cross found Joe Gelhardt, whose low shot slipped through the hands of Anthony Patterson.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, striker McBurnie said: “(We) knew it was going to be a tough time over two games.
“It’s very typical of our season. Nobody liked us last season and we proved them wrong again.
“I think we can enjoy tonight. We have a week and a half so we can enjoy some tonight and get back to it in a couple of days.”
The feelings were very different for Millwall boss Alex Neil.
“We didn’t perform well enough. We didn’t maintain the level well enough,” Neal told Sky Sports.
“You have to give credit to Hull, I thought they defended well, but as an attacking force, we didn’t have enough in the 90 minutes.
“I don’t think now, as difficult as it is, is the time to think about what we didn’t do three weeks ago (not go into automation).
“You feel like it’s disappointing, I feel like I’ve let people down and that’s my overriding feeling.”
