Season 3 of euphoria is coming to an end – but will the series return with more episodes?

The hit HBO series, which premiered in 2019, was originally about troubled high school student Rue (Zendaya) as she struggled to stay sober after rehab. euphoria was quickly renewed for a second season after its premiere, but it took nearly three years for episodes to air.

Season 3 was originally scheduled to air on HBO in 2025 before it encountered several obstacles, including creator Sam Levinson’s commitment to his short-lived series The Idol. The two WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that occurred in late 2023 extended the already long delay.

After the conclusion of the second season, the cast also suffered two cast losses Angus Cloud died in July 2023 at the age of 25 as a result of an accidental overdose and Eric Dane died after a battle with ALS at age 53. The series addressed Fez’s absence in Season 3 by keeping him behind bars while Cal appeared in Dane in two episodes and visibly experienced the physical symptoms of his diagnosis.

“Some people ask why it took so long between Seasons 2 and 3. There were obvious factors — the strikes, trying to get a schedule together with our very in-demand cast, but the real time was figuring out how to find a way to show respect to those we lost,” Levinson told Variety in April 2026.

He continued: “When Angus died, it was hard. I loved him very much and fought hard to keep him clean. The year he died, in 2023, he was one of 73,000 people in America to die from a fentanyl overdose. I learned a lot that year, but what I realized more than anything is that death gives meaning to life. You can’t be arrogant about existence. You have to reckon with life itself being it.” a miracle, a gift, a profound blessing.”

Levinson wouldn’t directly confirm or deny what’s in store for the show.

“(I write) every season like it’s the last season,” he told Variety in April 2026. “(I have) no plans (for Season 4).”

He continued, “I want to finish this as best as I can. I’m still in the process of cutting Episodes 7 and 8. I’m putting a few finishing touches on it. I just want to deliver one hell of a slam dunk season.”

At an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show In April 2026, Zendaya was asked if the series was coming to an end. “I think so, yeah,” she said when Barrymore asked if it was the final season. “This closure is coming.”

Jacob Elordi

If euphoria was set to return for another season, albeit without Elordi. His character Nate was killed off in season 3 – and the actor spoke out about the surprising decision.

“It’s a bittersweet thing,” he said in a post that aired after the May 2026 episode. “This show is a huge part – not just of my career, but of my life. It was amazing and I’m so proud to be a part of it.”
