Mikayla Matthews has no time for haters as she continues to battle Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) both publicly and privately.

“For those who say they are just ‘skin rashes’ or about alleviating the mental and physical toll that serious skin diseases can have on someone, they can completely impact your quality of life and your will to live, and have lasting effects on every part of your life.” Matthews, 25, wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, May 20, and clapped back at the naysayers who downplayed her health issues.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Women star shared a video about her skin condition at various stages of irritation over the past four years, including breakouts on her neck, arms, back and swelling around her eyes.

“Looking back at these videos is super triggering, but also a reminder that healing is possible,” Matthews continued. “I remember being at rock bottom with my health mentally and physically like it was yesterday and I was begging to be where I am today. For that I am so grateful for the progress and ongoing healing🙏🏼.”

Matthews’ most recent video about her condition was posted as part of the current social media trend “Drag Path,” in which users point to a traumatic or significant incident that left a “drag path” to other moments in their lives.

“A tough road…but it’s the four years of joy and time with my children that were robbed from me by a debilitating chronic illness,” Matthews wrote over the video, which shows her ups and downs with CIRS.

Matthews, for her part, has been vocal about her health since her life as a Mormon wife in Utah was spotlighted in the first season of the Hulu series in 2024.

Earlier this year, Matthews traveled to various locations across the US in hopes of healing her skin. In April, she told her Instagram followers that she was “terribly afraid” of returning to her home state of Utah after feeling relief in California and Costa Rica in the spring.

Matthews plans to travel to Europe later this year for a “detox retreat” and has offered to take a fan who also suffers from a skin condition with him, all expenses covered.

The reality star is currently living in Hawaii to “heal my skin.” Last month, Matthews documented her trip to Maui, taking two of her and her husband with her Jace Terry‘s four children for the temporary stay.

On May 16th Day 15 of her healing journey to HawaiiTerry, 31, flew to the island with his two other children for a family reunion.
