Juventus took a big step towards securing Champions League qualification, with Dusan Vlahovic scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Lecce.
Vlahovic opened the scoring after just 12 seconds, the fastest goal in team history Italian League A Last season, he fired into the roof of the net from Andrea Cambiasso’s left-foot pass.
The Serbian and Pierre Kalolo had goals disallowed for offside, but it didn’t matter as Juve moved into third place, four points behind fifth-placed Roma in the race for the top four. Lecce, which is four points away from the bottom three places, missed the opportunity to confirm its place in the Italian League.
Defending champion Inter Milan achieved an easy victory over host Lazio 3-0 in a match between the two teams qualified for the Italian Cup final.
Lautaro Martinez broke the deadlock before turning provider for Petar Sučić. Lazio’s Alessio Romagnoli was sent off in the second half, leaving the team with a mountain to climb, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan put the match beyond any doubt 14 minutes before the end of normal time.
The other match of the day saw Udinese win 2-0 over Cagliari.
Bayern beats Wolfsburg and Leipzig wins the Champions League
German League champions Bayern Munich ended a week that saw them eliminated from the Champions League with a 1-0 victory over Wolfsburg, third from the bottom, which is now certain to face at least a relegation play-off.
Harry Kane fired a first-half penalty high and wide after Michael Olise was fouled, but Olise saved his shame with a stunning shot that rebounded off the crossbar.
Wolfsburg will face St. Pauli on the final match day to determine who will advance to the play-off and who will be automatically relegated. St. Pauli lost 2-1 to RB Leipzig, which won the Champions League.
Javier Schlager and Will Orban put RB Leipzig ahead and scored twice in the space of nine minutes. St. Pauli pulled one back through Abdoulie Ceesay four minutes from time, but they were unable to complete the comeback.
Wolfsburg and St. Pauli are equal on 26 points, with the former leading by three goals on goal difference.
Stuttgart narrowly outperforms Hoffenheim in the race for the top four positions after both won on Saturday.
The goal difference separates the two tied teams with 61 points, after Stuttgart dealt a strong blow to Bayer Leverkusen’s hopes in the Champions League with a 3-1 victory over coach Kasper Heulmand’s team.
Alex Garcia gave Leverkusen the lead in the first minute, before Ermidin Demirovich equalized four minutes later. Maximilian Mittelstadt completed the conversion from the penalty spot in the seventh minute of stoppage time, before Deniz Undav made it 3-1 just before the hour mark.
Leverkusen is three points behind Stuttgart and Hoffenheim, who beat Werder Bremen with ten men 1-0 before the final round. Elsewhere, Augsburg kept their European football hopes alive with a 3-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Celta stuns Atletico
Atletico Madrid ended a week in which they missed the Champions League final with a 1-0 defeat at home to Celta Vigo, which kept their hopes of playing in that competition next season alive.
Borja Iglesias’ stunning strike was the only goal of the game, a goal that moved them within four points of fifth-placed Real Betis with three games remaining.
Fifth place would be enough to qualify for the Champions League, with La Liga earning an extra place, but Betis could have a stronger grip on it if they do not waste a two-goal lead against Real Sociedad.
Anthony and Abdelzouli put Betis ahead, but after John Gorotxategui canceled out a goal for Sociedad, the Copa del Rey winner scored twice in the space of 12 minutes to claim a share of the spoils. Uri Oscarsson halved the deficit before Mikel Oyarzabal equalized from the penalty spot in the first minute of stoppage time, while Betis saw Eitor Roybal sent off for a second yellow card before the end of normal time.
At the other end of the table, Sevilla boosted their hopes of staying in a crowded relegation battle with a 2-1 win over Espanyol, who are just two points away from safety.
Elche is also two points ahead of third-placed Alaves after a 1-1 draw.
