Another week, another Slay the Spire 2 patch! Or rather, I should say a few more weeks. The new beta version of the game, v0.105.0, is ready to be tried by those of you who are on the beta branch, and the first order of business is the bi-weekly update. “As you’ve probably noticed, we’re moving to updates every two weeks rather than once a week, as outlined in our Early Access disclaimer,” says developer Mega Crit.
“This may be a bit surprising given that the first game was patched every week, but it was a lot of work so it really sucked.” Mega Crit went on to explain that updating the roguelike every two weeks will allow for “bigger changes and more time to work and polish things before release. It will also allow more time for beta players to absorb and provide feedback on the changes.”
This is obviously not a new patch per se, but what is new is Beastiary. As Mega Crit notes, this is just a “sneak peek at what it will end up being,” but they hope you’ll still have fun seeing all of the game’s beasts and their animations and data, not all of which are fully implemented, listed for you to cycle through at your leisure.
Beyond that, a big boss change has taken place: the Doormaker is out, and Aeonglass is in. Last month, Mega Crit said they were taking all kinds of feedback related to Doormaker, a somewhat controversial boss, into account before continuing to play with him. But he’s gone now! “While Doormaker made some interesting micro-decisions in combat, it exceeded the complexity threshold of what we wanted and had ongoing issues,” Mega Crit explains. “We decided that starting from scratch would allow us to achieve what we really want for an Act 3 boss.”
There are many other tweaks, improvements, nerfs, art additions, UI improvements, writing fixes and much more in this beta update; you can read the full patch notes here.
