Bosnia showed great resilience in qualifying for the tournament through UEFA qualifiers, coming back from a goal down in the semi-final against Wales and in the final with Italy to win both matches on penalties.
They are looking for only their second World Cup finals win, having previously beaten Iran 3-1 in 2014 in their only previous appearance since the country’s independence from Yugoslavia in 1992.
Although the friendly draws with North Macedonia and Panama in the friendly matches were not inspiring results, Bosnia entered the match with an impressive performance in competitive matches, losing just once in their last 11 matches (W5, D5).
