Patnaik said officials from both countries meet regularly to discuss access to Canadian energy.
However, he said global investors remain cautious about regulatory and project approval processes in Canada, which could affect the pace of energy cooperation.
Separately, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company said on Tuesday that it is exploring opportunities in the exploration and production and liquefied natural gas sectors in Canada through its international arm, XRG.
Canada is the world’s fourth largest producer of crude oil and the fifth largest producer of natural gas.
