Ghostrunner developer One More Level brings its first-person expertise to the Soulslike genre with Valor Mortis, launching September 24, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and Steam. The game will be available from day one on Xbox Game Pass, with a playable demo already live on Steam.

Set in a supernatural vision of 19th-century Europe, players control William, a resurrected soldier from Napoleon’s Grande Armée who must wield both period weaponry and devastating supernatural powers. The Krakow-based studio has tapped Cesar-winning actor Vincent Cassel to play Napoleon Bonaparte, whose disembodied voice guides William through plague-ravaged battlefields and corrupt European cities.

The game promises tough, endurance-based combat, mixing rapiers and flintlock pistols with William’s supernatural abilities. Players will need to master parrying, running, and visceral finishing moves while exploring in Metroidvania style, using William’s enhanced mobility to outwit Napoleon’s plague-ravaged Eternal Guard.

Valor Mortis features an original score co-composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski, known for his work on Silent Hill 2 Remake and The Medium, alongside in-house composer Oskar Bała. The game’s aesthetic focuses on theatrical lighting and mature themes as players experience the horrific aftermath of Napoleon’s conquest.

A new gameplay trailer showcasing Napoleon’s first appearance and the relationship between emperor and soldier has been revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase. Players can try the Steam demo now ahead of the September release.
