You’ll be able to change parts of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s story, but regardless, there’s only one ending G Trends

Last week, Square Enix revealed to us that the final part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy was just that, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. It will obviously follow Rebirth, which ends with (REDACTED), but its destination generally remains a mystery given the various changes made so far. It turns out that you will be able to make some changes yourself, except for one important thing: the ending.

Talk to GamesRadardirector Naoki Hamaguchi explained that Revelation will have a number of “player choices” that will affect certain story beats. “As our group heads into the final battle, the game will show the determination they carry within them,” he explains. “It goes without saying, but our heroes, Cloud and his companions, are beloved by many fans around the world. But when we thought about it, we didn’t just want to deliver a unique storytelling experience to every player around the world. We wanted every player – every fan – to have a unique experience as they head into the final battle.”

As for that final battle, Hamaguchi notes that it’s “probably going to get a lot of attention from our fans,” and that he thinks “a lot of fans are worried — or just curious — about how it’s going to play out in the end.” Regardless of the ending, he says that “the end of the story will be a singular ending”, meaning that your choices will not ultimately change the fate of the story. But you might still approach the ending with different feelings than a friend who chose differently.

“There won’t be multiple endings that would change based on player choices, but the process by which we get to that single ending might be a little bit different between players depending on the choices they make throughout the game. That might mean that some players might have a different emotion as they get to the end of the story, so that’s a little bit of the difference they might have.”

Revelation, and the remake trilogy as a whole, will likely be a bit polarizing regardless of how it ends, whether you have a choice or not. This is, after all, Final Fantasy 7, a game that has almost become a biblical text for many. We’ll just have to wait and see if it’s remotely successful!
