The United States welcomes African powerhouse Senegal to Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte as pressure mounts on the World Cup host nation.
With less than two weeks until the tournament kicks off, USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino is hoping his side can turn around a disappointing run of results in 2026 and generate some much-needed momentum ahead of the big event.
After a positive end to 2025, the United States suffered back-to-back defeats at home in March, albeit against European powers Belgium (5-2) and Portugal (2-0).
Senegal will similarly hope to instill confidence in its team ahead of a tough World Cup group encounter, which includes Norway and one of the pre-tournament favourites, France.
However, Pape Thiaw’s side are in good form, having lost just two matches in 42 matches since the 2022 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the fiasco at the Africa Cup of Nations, which saw Senegal officially stripped of their title after their players walked off the field during the final, may only serve to motivate the team further in North America this summer.
