The fact is that some of the best television shows of all time came out in the ’80s. The groundbreaking Cheers And Taxi, and the iconic Star Trek Saga, The next generation.
The Watch With Us team rounded up our five favorite shows from the ’80s and where you can watch them now.

Sam Malone (Ted Danson), a former Boston Red Sox pitcher, runs Boston’s popular watering hole Cheers. Therefore, Cheers follows Sam and the many different co-workers, customers and friends he interacts with every day while working at his bar. Colorful characters include waitress Diane (Shelley Long), who works there during his studies, the psychiatrist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) and bartender Woody (Woody Harrelson).
Cheers The series was almost canceled in its first season due to poor ratings, but in subsequent seasons it became the ultimate comeback classic, consistently topping the ratings charts and winning an impressive 28 Emmys. The show’s success helped boost Harrleson’s career while also spurring the equally successful spin-off show. Frasier, The focus is on Frasier Crane and his life in Seattle. Cheers is still popular for its cozy atmosphere and top-notch comedy writing.
This legendary sitcom directed by Betty White, Bea Arthur, Estelle Getty And Rue McClanahan follows four much older women who live together in Miami and experience the joys and trials of aging. There is the headstrong Dorothy (Arthur), her mother Sophia (Getty), the man-hungry Blanche (McClanahan) and the practical-minded Rose (White). Together, these women may clash, but they’ll always be there for each other when it matters most.
The Golden Girls is an ultimate feel-good comfort sitcom with thoroughly charismatic performances from its lead actresses and moments that are sure to make you laugh. At the time, the series was groundbreaking for its progressive portrayal of older women grappling with things like sex, dating and friendship, and shattering stereotypes about aging.
The Emmy winner taxi tells the lives of a group of New York taxi drivers, the employees of the Sunshine Cab Company. The diverse characters are largely based in the company’s fleet garage in Manhattan taxi This also includes her arrogant dispatcher Louis (Danny DeVito), struggling actor Bobby (Jeff Conaway), the aspiring boxer Tony (Tony Danza), receptionist Elaine and mechanic Latka Gravis (Andy Kaufman). Only Alex (Judd Hirsch) is considering quitting his job because he expects to be in this job for the rest of his life.
taxi is still widely considered one of the best comedy shows of all time and one of the best shows of all time. The show offers a great mix of sharp, character-driven comedy and really tender drama. The memorable performances, including those of Hirsch, DeVito and Christopher Lloyd In particular, they are still considered iconic, with characters that are hilarious, complex and deeply relatable.

The great success of Star Trek: The Next Generation not only brought a whole new generation of viewers into the Star Trek fanbase, but also helped lay the foundation for the subsequent spin-off shows that have continued over the past few decades. It is still frequently considered one of the best television shows of all time, praised for its well-written, intellectual science fiction stories and great ensemble cast.
Former model Maddie Hayes (Cybill Shepherd) is cheated out of her money by her accountant and is left bankrupt and unemployed. In order to earn money again, she opens a private detective agency in an unconventional way. Maddie teams up with a snarky private investigator named David Addison (Bruce Willis), and together the unlikely pair investigate cases at the Blue Moon Detective Agency – and slowly fall in love.
Illegal work served as a breakout role for Willis and helped restart Shepherd’s career. The film was also groundbreaking at the time for its ambitious combination of comedy, drama, mystery and romance; a genre mashup that was atypical for a TV show at the time and was also characterized by the use of fourth wall breaking. Actually, Illegal work is still considered one of the first successful “dramedies” on television.
